June 29th, 2009 : Jain Irrigation Systems Ltd. has bagged large orders worth Rs. 158 crores (Rs.1580 million) from various Coca-Cola bottlers in India and overseas for supply of mango pulp for the 2009-2010 seasons. This is increase of more than 85% compared to last season. This product will be produced in the current mango season but dispatched over next year or so.

The Food division of the company is the largest processor of fruits and vegetables in India with factories in India and the USA. The core strength of the division is the focus on quality, which has been attested by certifications like ISO 22000, GMA SAFE, BRC etc. Recently the division has also received ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 certifications for Environment, Health and Safety. Jain’s fruit processing plants are located at Jalgaon in Maharashtra and at Chittoor in Andhra Pradesh. The demand for processed fruits and vegetables is growing in India as well as overseas markets and this has translated into the division growing at more than 35% compounded basis over the last 5 years.

Jains processed only 87,500 MT of fruits and 56,000 MT of onions last year as season was short and are targeting to process record 175,000 MT of fruit and 85,000 MT of onions this year. Mango is the largest revenue earner for the product portfolio.

Jain is also working very closely with farmers in Maharashtra, Gujarat, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh on increasing Mango yields. Jain’s not only provide irrigation systems to small farmers but also provide agronomy support through its R & D farms located in Jalgaon, Udmelpeth and Chittoor. Jain’s have evolved an ultra high density planting for Mango which will increase yields by more than double. Jain’s have also started an initiative to buy Mangoes directly from farmers and set up contract farming in the growing regions.
